Lead assignment rules are evaluated against static criteria and don't account for whether an assigned rep is currently available or has open calendar slots. A rep on PTO, with a full calendar, or with no near-term availability can still receive a lead assignment with no automatic fallback.
Factor real-time calendar availability into lead assignment logic so that only reps who are currently available and have open slots within a defined window are included in the eligible assignment pool. Reps with no availability should be automatically excluded or routed to a fallback.
Assigning a lead to an unavailable rep is functionally the same as not assigning it at all, except it looks like it was handled. Availability-aware assignment ensures leads always land with someone who can actually follow up, directly improving speed-to-contact and conversion rates on inbound demand.
